Carla Thonsgaard

Carla Thonsgaard was born in Aalborg in 1922 and lived there all her life. Self-taught, she did not start painting until the early 1970s, and was noticed straight away.

She painted the city as she wanted it to be. Aalborg and Copenhagen, circus and horse fairs, family life and the beach. Clear colours, many details, and a quiet sense of humour about the world she was looking at.

She became one of Denmark's leading naivists. Kunsten Museum of Modern Art in Aalborg holds five of her works and gave her a solo exhibition in 2012. She died in 2017.

Morten Thonsgaard Jensen, founder of ARCHITECTMADE, is her grandson. These cards are printed from paintings kept in the family.
